❓ What is Sensory Overload?
Sensory Overload is an online learning platform for neurodivergent adults and teens, focused on turning mental health research and lived experience into clear, practical education.
On Sensory Overload you’ll find:
🌈 Online learning about ADHD, anxiety, neurodivergent burnout, self-care and self-esteem
📘 Hundreds of long-form, ad-free articles on neurodiversity topics
🧠 ND-friendly tools: reflection questions, worksheets, visual models and checklists
🧩 Gradually expanding courses that build structured learning paths on top of the articles
The aim is to help you:
💭 Understand your patterns and nervous system
🧱 Build language for what you experience
🔧 Experiment with small, realistic tools
🌱 Treat yourself with more clarity and less shame
Sensory Overload is about supporting your brain, not “fixing” you or forcing you into a neurotypical template.
❓ Who created Sensory Overload?
Sensory Overload was created by Johan Lammers, a late-diagnosed neurodivergent adult with:
🧠 A master’s degree in psychology
🌱 Lived experience with ADHD, autism traits, anxiety, depression and neurodivergent burnout
🎓 A background in turning complex information into structured, readable explanations
🧩 A love for building models, frameworks and reflection tools for ND brains
Johan is not a registered therapist and does not offer therapy or diagnosis through the platform.
Sensory Overload is:
📘 An educational and self-reflection project
🧭 Rooted in psychological theory, research and lived experience
💬 Written in an ND-friendly tone: clear, validating, low-pressure
Most of the courses and articles are written by Johan, supported by scientific literature and feedback from other neurodivergent people.
❓ Is Sensory Overload a therapy platform?
No.
Sensory Overload is:
📘 An education and self-reflection platform
🧭 A place to learn about your patterns, needs and nervous system
🔧 A library of tools you can try in your own life
It is not:
🚑 An emergency or crisis service
🧪 A diagnostic service
👩⚕️ Therapy, psychiatry or medical treatment
You can use Sensory Overload:
🌱 Alongside therapy or coaching, as extra support
📚 As a starting point if you’re still exploring what fits you
🧩 As a way to build vocabulary before or after an assessment
Nothing on the platform replaces professional, personalised care when you need it.
❓ Who is Sensory Overload for?
Sensory Overload is mainly designed for:
🧠 Neurodivergent adults and older teens
🌈 People with ADHD, autism, AuDHD, anxiety, ND burnout and related overlaps
🕰️ People on waiting lists for assessment who want to understand themselves better
🧩 Self-identified or questioning neurodivergent people
💛 Parents, partners and friends who want ND-informed explanations
📚 Professionals who want clearer language to support ND clients or students
You do not need a formal diagnosis to use the platform.
If the topics resonate and help you make sense of your experience, you are welcome.
❓ What topics does Sensory Overload cover?
Sensory Overload already includes hundreds of long, ad-free articles across a wide range of neurodiversity themes. These articles form the foundation of the platform. Courses on these topics are being developed and will be added gradually.
Current article themes include:
⚡ ADHD
Understanding ADHD patterns, lived experience, inner contradictions, emotional impact, hyperfocus, time blindness, planning, coping tools and reflective frameworks.
😰 Anxiety
General anxiety, social anxiety, worry loops, avoidance cycles, nervous-system overload, coping strategies, grounding tools and how anxiety shows up in daily life.
🔥 Neurodivergent burnout
ND-specific burnout models, burnout cycles, early-warning signs, shutdowns, recovery phases, capacity-based pacing, the burnout cascade and sustainable prevention tools.
🌱 Self-care
Emotional, mental, physical and social self-care tailored to ND nervous systems, including low-capacity self-care, sensory days, overwhelm recovery and pacing.
💛 Self-esteem
How ND life, masking, people-pleasing, rejection, burnout and lifelong misunderstandings affect your sense of worth, plus gentle ways to rebuild self-esteem.
You’ll also find many articles on related topics:
🧩 Autism and AuDHD
Traits, sensory differences, masking, social fatigue, shutdowns, autistic inertia, unmasking, and overlap patterns between ADHD and autism.
🌧 Neurodivergent depression
Emotional exhaustion, depression that overlaps with burnout and shutdown, low-capacity states and ND-informed self-support strategies.
🌠 Giftedness, high ability and twice-exceptionality
Asynchronous development, emotional intensity, uneven skill profiles, perfectionism, identity confusion and “too much / not enough” experiences.
🎧 Sensory processing and overload
Sound sensitivity, misophonia, hyperacusis, sensory recoil, shutdowns, overload patterns and practical sensory coping tools.
🤝 ND relationships and communication
Boundaries, directness, misunderstandings, social exhaustion, ND–ND and ND–NT dynamics, and communication differences.
💼 Work, school and executive function
Capacity management, planning, burnout at work, ADHD/autistic work challenges, open-plan offices, study strategies and ND-friendly productivity.
These topics already exist in depth through articles.
Courses will gradually build structured learning paths on top of these themes.
The long-term vision is a broad, interconnected ND learning ecosystem where articles give you flexible depth and courses offer guided, reflective progression.
❓ Are the courses suitable if I’m in burnout or very low capacity?
Yes. The courses are written with low capacity in mind.
You’ll notice:
🍵 Short sections with clear headings you can read in small bursts
💭 Reflection options that can be done in your head, in one sentence, or skipped
🧩 Worksheets that are helpful but optional — not requirements
🌫 Gentle pacing without “you must complete this in X weeks” pressure
🧱 Repeated reminders that needing to go slowly doesn’t mean you’re failing
You can treat each course as:
📘 A library you visit when you can
🧭 A map you can return to during different phases of burnout or recovery
🌱 Something that grows with you instead of a task you have to “finish”
❓ How are the courses structured?
Most Sensory Overload courses follow a similar structure:
📘 Around 8–10 lessons per course
📄 Each lesson broken into several focused topics or articles
🪞 Reflection prompts woven into the text
📎 Optional worksheets, trackers or checklists
🧠 Visual models or diagrams where they make things clearer
You can:
🌱 Read a lesson in one go, or topic by topic
🌊 Jump to the sections that match your current struggle
⏸ Pause whenever you need and come back when you have capacity
Courses are designed so you don’t have to read “perfectly” to get something useful out of them.
❓ How long does a course take to complete?
There is no fixed timeline.
⏳ A Basics-style course can be read in a day or weekend if you’re in a high-capacity phase, or slowly over several weeks when you’re drained
🔍 Deep-dive and skills courses often work best over a few weeks to a few months, especially if you use the reflection questions and worksheets
You decide:
⏸ When to slow down
🔁 When to revisit parts
✨ When “enough for now” is enough
Progress is about integration, not speed.
❓ How much do the courses and bundles cost?
Pricing is simple and consistent:
📘 Every individual course costs $19
📦 Every Course Theme Bundle (all courses within one theme, such as ADHD or Anxiety) costs $49
So for example:
⚡ All ADHD courses together as one theme bundle → $49
😰 All Anxiety courses together as one theme bundle → $49
🔥 All ND Burnout courses as a bundle → $49
You can:
📘 Buy a single course if you want to focus on one area
📦 Buy a Course Theme Bundle if you know you’ll want everything in that topic
The aim is to keep pricing:
⚖️ Accessible and predictable
🧭 Transparent and easy to understand
🌱 Proportionate to the depth and size of the content
❓ Is there a subscription or membership?
Yes. Sensory Overload currently offers a Founding Member subscription.
🎟 Founding Member All-Access Pass:
💵 $89 per year
📚 Access to courses across five main course themes:
🌈 ADHD
😰 Anxiety
🔥 Neurodivergent Burnout
🌱 Self-Care
💛 Self-Esteem
This pass gives you:
📘 Access to all current courses within these five themes
🧩 Access to new courses added in these themes while your membership is active
🌱 The flexibility to move between topics as your life and capacity change
Future pricing:
📈 As more course themes (for example Autism, AuDHD, ND Depression, Giftedness) go live, the standard membership price will increase for new members
🔒 Founding Members keep their discounted $89/year rate for life, as long as their subscription remains active and in good standing
You can:
🌈 Join as a Founding Member to lock in the lower rate
📘 Or choose individual courses or course bundles if you prefer one-time purchases
❓ How do the free articles relate to the paid courses?
The free articles are the base layer of Sensory Overload.
📄 Articles zoom in on specific topics (for example: masking, sensory recoil days, misophonia, shutdowns, “constant contradiction” in ADHD, low-capacity self-care)
🧩 Courses bring several of these topics together into structured journeys
🪞 Articles can prepare you for a course, or help you go deeper after a lesson
🌱 Many people read articles for a while before they feel ready to take a course or membership
You can use Sensory Overload:
📚 Only for free articles
📘 Only for paid courses or bundles
🧭 Or in whatever mix fits your energy, time and budget
❓ Are there really hundreds of free articles?
