Depression can affect mood, motivation, energy, thinking, sleep, relationships and the ability to engage with everyday life. For neurodivergent adults, those experiences can also interact with sensory overload, burnout, executive difficulties, masking, isolation, repeated criticism and years of trying to function in environments that do not fit particularly well.
Our depression courses for neurodivergent adults are designed to help you understand those patterns more clearly — and turn that understanding into practical forms of support that fit your actual life.
SensoryOverload combines science + lived experience through practical, structured learning. Instead of treating depression as one universal experience, the courses explore how mood, capacity, neurodivergence, environment and life experiences can interact — and why useful support may look different from one person to another.
🧭 Choose the kind of learning you need
You do not need to follow one prescribed route. Start with what you want to understand or work on right now.
🪞 Personal Profiles — explore your own patterns around mood, energy, motivation, overload, withdrawal, strengths, support and recovery
🛠️ Coping Skills & Tools — find practical ways to reduce friction, protect capacity, reconnect with meaningful activity and make difficult periods more manageable
🔬 The Science — understand research on depression, motivation, reward, stress, cognition, neurodivergence and related processes
🤝 Supporting Someone — understand depression more clearly and explore ways to offer support without adding pressure, judgment or unrealistic expectations
Our Depression courses are in development. They will lauch in Q4 2026.
🧠 Depression can affect more than mood
Depression is often associated with sadness, but the experience can be much broader. Some people feel deeply low, while others mainly notice exhaustion, numbness, withdrawal, reduced motivation, irritability, loss of interest or the sense that even small tasks require enormous effort.
For neurodivergent adults, those experiences may also overlap with burnout, executive dysfunction, sensory overload or chronic stress.
Across the courses, you can explore areas such as:
🌧️ Low mood & emotional numbness — understanding different ways depression can affect emotional experience
🪫 Energy & capacity — why everyday demands can become much harder when available capacity drops
⚡ Motivation & reward — understanding loss of interest, reduced activation and difficulty reconnecting with rewarding activity
🧩 Executive functioning — how planning, starting, deciding and completing tasks can become even harder during depression
🌀 Rumination & negative thinking — repetitive thoughts, self-criticism and getting stuck in painful mental loops
💛 Self-esteem & shame — the effect of criticism, comparison, perceived failure and years of unexplained difficulty
🚪 Withdrawal & isolation — understanding the tension between needing less demand and becoming increasingly disconnected
🔊 Sensory load — how reduced capacity can make ordinary environments and input harder to tolerate
🔥 Burnout & depression — exploring overlap, differences and the ways prolonged overload can affect mood
The aim is not simply to identify symptoms. It is to understand what is happening in your life, what may be maintaining difficulty, and what kinds of support may be useful.
🪞 Understand the pattern before adding more demands
One of the problems with generic advice about depression is that even well-intended strategies can become another source of pressure.
“Exercise more.”
“See more people.”
“Build a routine.”
“Do something productive.”
“Think positively.”
Any of those things may help in the right context. But they can also be poorly matched when someone is severely depleted, overwhelmed by sensory input, struggling with executive functioning or already carrying a long list of things they believe they should be doing.
Context matters. Capacity matters. Burnout matters. Environment matters. Your individual pattern matters.
That is why SensoryOverload does not focus only on “What should I make myself do?” We also explore:
🪫 What is currently taking more energy than I have available?
🌧️ What has changed in my mood, motivation, interest or functioning?
🔥 Could prolonged overload or burnout also be contributing?
💛 How much of my internal pressure comes from criticism, shame or repeated experiences of struggling?
🌱 What forms of activity, connection or support are realistic at my current level of capacity?
🛠️ What could make the next step smaller, clearer or easier to access?
Understanding the pattern can help turn support into something more specific than another list of expectations.
🌱 From understanding to everyday life
Learning about depression should help you make sense of what is happening and identify realistic ways forward.
The courses are designed to help you recognize patterns, understand the interaction between mood and neurodivergent functioning, reduce unnecessary demands and experiment with practical forms of support.
That might mean making a task smaller, reducing sensory load, rebuilding access to meaningful activities, adjusting expectations during periods of low capacity, seeking more appropriate professional support or understanding that a difficulty you have been interpreting as laziness may involve several different processes at once.
The goal is not to demand optimism or productivity from yourself.
It is to understand what is making life harder, reduce avoidable friction and make support more realistic for the capacity you actually have.
